Stocks tumbled broadly Tuesday, with fears regarding access to the Strait of Hormuz escalating.
Here's a closer look:
-- Major U.S. stock indexes slumped more than 2%. The Dow industrials fell 2.4%, on pace for its worst day since April's tariff selloff.
-- The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies slid 3.5%, also on pace for its biggest percentage-decline since April
-- Moves in single stocks were big, too. Some of the largest declines were mining company Freeport-McMoRan, Norwegian Cruise Line and energy supplier NRG Energy, all down more than 9%.
