U.S. Tech Stocks Fall as Traders Fear Inflation Shock -- Market Talk

Dow Jones03-02 18:04

1004 GMT - The tech-heavy Nasdaq leads blue-chip U.S. indexes lower premarket as investors weigh the risk of an inflation shock resulting from conflict in the Middle East, Swissquote's Ipek Ozkardeskaya writes. "A sustained oil spike could lift inflation expectations and bond yields, pressuring long-duration growth valuations by raising discount rates," Ozkardeskaya says. "That matters for companies like Nvidia, Microsoft, Apple, and Alphabet, whose multiples are sensitive to future revenues and real yields." Nvidia falls 1.6% premarket, while Alphabet and Apple drop 2.7% and 1.2%, respectively. Futures for the Nasdaq are down 1.5%.(josephmichael.stonor@wsj.com)
