US Cash Grains-Corn and soy bids mixed as futures retreat from gains

CHICAGO, March 2 (Reuters) - Basis bids for corn and soybeans were mixed in the U.S. Midwest on Monday after recent price gains encouraged some farmers to sell crops, traders said

  • The corn basis fell by 5 cents a bushel for delivery in the first half of March in Decatur, Illinois.

  • Dealers rolled their basis bids for corn and soybeans to Chicago Board of Trade May contracts from March contracts.

  • CBOT May corn CK26 reached its highest since January 12 while May soybeans SK26 set a contract high.

  • Futures prices later pulled back as traders turned their focus away from the Middle East conflict that earlier sparked a wave of short-covering.

  • Traders said they were worried that China, the world's biggest soybean importer, could back away from buying American supplies of the oilseed after Beijing condemned U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran.

  • Domestic and export demand remained solid for U.S. corn, traders said.
