Investors Expected to Hold On to Dollars While Waiting for Clarity -- Market Talk

Dow Jones03-03 03:18

1418 ET - The conflict in the Middle East drives investors to retreat from riskier assets, boosting the dollar. "People just kind of close up, go for home, de-risk, and then see what happens" following such a shock, Natixis' John Briggs says. He acknowledges it is hard to tell where money is flowing, but overall he suspects investors are selling, say, U.S. stocks and "hiding out in cash," waiting for clarity: "if you're a corporate, [you keep your dollars at] your corporate bank, if you're a hedge fund, at your prime broker, if you're an investor, in your money market fund," he says.
