Best Buy Not Being Hurt By Weak Low-Income Consumer Sentiment -- Market Talk

Dow Jones03-04

1119 ET - Weak sentiment and careful spending among low-income consumers is not hitting Best Buy much, says Chief Executive Corie Barry in a media call. For one, Best Buy's customer base skews to higher income and older cohorts, with more than 50% of its customers making more than $100,000 a year. Additionally, Best Buy's products aren't as discretionary as other retailers. "So much of what we sell, if it breaks or if it's not working, you need [a replacement]", Barry says. "You're not gonna go days without your phone, you're not gonna go days without your computer or your tablet, whatever your income strata is." (nicholas.miller@wsj.com)
