0839 GMT - European energy stocks rise in opening trade as oil and gas prices continue to climb on supply worries. The conflict in the Middle East has seen energy infrastructure hit, while the vital energy waterway, the Strait of Hormuz, is effectively closed. Brent crude trades 3% higher at $83.85 a barrel. The U.S. benchmark, West Texas Intermediate, rises 2.8% to $73.76 a barrel. European natural gas prices jump, with the most-active TTF front-month contract rising to 53.82 euros a megawatt-hour. In London, Shell rises 1%, BP gains 1.3% and Harbour Energy is up 6% after reporting earnings earlier in the day. Spain's Repsol is up 3% and Norway's Equinor gains 1.5%. (adam.whittaker@wsj.com)
