Bayer's Roundup Settlement Isn't a Done Deal Yet -- Market Talk

Dow Jones03-05

0702 GMT - Bayer's proposed $7.25 billion U.S. settlement over its Roundup weedkiller got preliminary approval from a Missouri court, but full acceptance from plaintiffs isn't yet a done deal, Berenberg's Sebastian Bray says in a research note. Plaintiffs now have until June 4 to opt out of the settlement or file objections ahead of a fairness hearing scheduled for July 9. Separately, the U.S. Supreme Court is expected to decide on a Roundup case brought by Bayer by the end of its session in June. The deadline for plaintiffs on the settlement might fall on either side of the Supreme Court ruling, Berenberg's Bray says. "The incentives to accept the settlement upfront, as opposed to waiting for a ruling before deciding, may therefore not be completely clear-cut," the analyst says. (adria.calatayud@wsj.com)
