Alibaba (BABA) has set up a new internal task force led by CEO Eddie Wu Wongming to coordinate company-wide resources and accelerate development of its foundational artificial intelligence models, the South China Morning Post reported Thursday, citing an internal letter.

The task force will include Wu, Alibaba Cloud chief technology officer Zhou Jingren, and Wu Zeming, who heads the company's food delivery business, the report said.

Wu also reiterated Alibaba's commitment to maintaining its open-source AI model strategy while increasing investment in AI research and continuing to recruit talent.

Alibaba did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
