Supercell, the Finnish game developer owned by Tencent (HKG:0700), said it is cooperating with a U.S. government security review of its Chinese parent's data practices, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday.
The Helsinki-based company said that it operates independently under its shareholder agreement and that Tencent does not have access to player data outside China, where it acts as the local publisher and operator of Supercell games, according to the report.
The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States is examining whether Tencent's investments in U.S. and Finnish companies pose national security risks, the Financial Times reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Tencent owns a 28% stake in Fortnite developer Epic Games, and controls League of Legends maker Riot Games and Clash of Clans developer Supercell.
