Costco Seen Able to Stabilize Membership Renewal Rates -- Market Talk

1117 ET - Costco's worldwide membership renewal rates were flat in the second quarter, while renewal rates in the U.S. and Canada declined 10 basis points year-over-year. But the company should be able to stabilize membership renewal with ongoing mitigation efforts, BMO analysts write in a note, a view shared by Oppenheimer analysts. Executive membership growth was strong, at 9.5%, the BMO analysts write, fueled by perks like extended store hours and Instacart credits. Executive members spend an average of $5,300 a year at Costco, triple that of a Goldstar member, BMO analysts estimate. Costco gains 1.5%.(elias.schisgall@wsj.com)
