Meta Platforms (META) and its manufacturing partner, Luxottica of America, are facing a lawsuit in the US over Meta's artificial intelligence smart glasses for allegedly violating privacy laws and engaging in false advertising, according to a court document filed Wednesday.
The complaint claims that Meta advertised its AI smart glasses as "designed for privacy, controlled by you," but videos captured by the glasses, including private moments, are sent to Meta's servers and then viewed by workers in Kenya to help train Meta's AI.
The suit added that Meta's "face anonymization" doesn't work, and reviewers who raise concerns about watching such personal footage risk being fired.
"Meta's conduct violates state consumer protection laws, offends basic notions of privacy, and exemplifies the kind of AI era surveillance harms that demand accountability," the lawsuit said.
Meta Platforms and Luxottica of America didn't immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
