Three peacekeepers in southern Lebanon were injured during "heavy firing," the United Nations said Friday. The peacekeepers were injured inside their base in Al Qawzah, with the most severely wounded transferred to a hospital in Beirut, the U.N.'s Interim Force in Lebanon said. "It is unacceptable that peacekeepers performing Security Council-mandated tasks are targeted," the U.N. agency said. It says attacks on peacekeepers may amount to a war crime.

Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Lebanese militia, has been targeting Israel in recent days amid the war in Iran. Israel says it is striking Hezbollah infrastructure in Beirut.
