Inflation Data, Oracle Earnings: What to Watch Next Week -- WSJ

Next week brings a slate of potentially market-moving events, with inflation data front and center. Wednesday's consumer-price index and Friday's personal-consumption expenditures index will offer the Federal Reserve two new reads on price pressures. Oracle will headline an earnings calendar that also includes Adobe and Dollar General. Housing, trade, jobs and consumer-sentiment data will paint a broader picture of the economy's health.

Monday, March 9

-- Earnings: Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Constellation Software, Vail Resorts

Tuesday, March 10

-- Earnings: Oracle, Kohl's

-- Economic data: The National Association of Realtors releases home-sales data for February. The National Federation of Independent Business will release its small-business index.

Wednesday, March 11

-- Earnings: Campbell's

-- Economic data: The Bureau of Labor Statistics will release the consumer-price index, a key inflation gauge, at 8:30 a.m. ET. The Energy Information Administration will release its weekly petroleum status report. The U.S. Treasury will release its monthly statement on money flows into and out of the institution. It also has an auction of 10-year Treasury notes.

-- Federal Reserve speaker: Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman is due to participate in a discussion on bank regulation and then is slated to give a speech on capital rules.

Thursday, March 12

-- Earnings: Adobe, Dollar General, Dick's Sporting Goods, Ulta Beauty, Lennar

-- Economic data: The EIA is scheduled to release the weekly natural gas storage report, and weekly jobless claims are also expected. January's data for the trade deficit and new residential construction are also on the way.

-- Bond auction: 30-year Treasury bonds

Friday, March 13

-- Economic data: The Bureau of Economic Analysis will release the Federal Reserve's preferred measure of inflation: the personal-consumption expenditures price index for January. The first revision on estimated fourth-quarter gross-domestic product and information on durable-goods orders are also expected. The University of Michigan is set to release preliminary results of its consumer sentiment survey for March.
