WeRide (WRD) said Sunday it has signed a broader strategic agreement with Geely Farizon to manufacture 2,000 upgraded autonomous taxis by 2026.
The newest generation of self-driving vehicles is scheduled to begin rolling off the assembly line during Q3 and will use updated hardware, including an advanced sensor suite that extends detection ranges to 600 meters to improve hazard recognition in severe weather, the company said.
The manufacturing arrangement is expected to reduce total vehicle costs by 15% while cutting assembly time to less than 10 minutes, WeRise said.
The incoming inventory will help push the company's active global fleet beyond 2,600 vehicles this year as it launches new public routes across international markets, it said.
