Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI plans to soon integrate its Sora AI video-generation tool into ChatGPT, The Information reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the effort.
The report said the move could increase usage of the chatbot, but it may also raise operating costs.
Sora, which allows users to generate short AI videos, was previously launched as a standalone mobile app with a TikTok-style interface but has not seen sustained popularity, the report said.
It added that integrating Sora into ChatGPT could help OpenAI compete with rivals such as Google, whose Gemini app already offers video generation through its Veo AI model.
OpenAI plans to keep the Sora app running for now, though its long-term future remains unclear, the report said.
OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
