India's Reliance Boosts LPG Output at Jamnagar Complex -- OPIS

India's Reliance Industries will boost LPG production at its Jamnagar refinery and petrochemical complexes to ensure sufficient domestic supply amid current geopolitical uncertainties, according to a media statement dated March 10.

The Jamnagar refinery has a crude processing capacity of 1.4 million b/d and a cracking capacity of 1.7 million metric tons per year of ethylene, according to the company website.

The company also said natural gas production from the KG-D6 Basin will be channeled toward supplying priority sectors.

Reliance added that it is working with the Indian government to properly allocate supplies to reach high-priority communities first, while continuing to support the country's energy security.

The move comes against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Middle East that have disrupted energy supply to several Asian markets. India is among the key markets affected, as the country traditionally sources the bulk of its LPG imports from the Gulf for residential and commercial use.

Data from Vortexa showed that India imported a total of 23.83 million mt of LPG in 2025, with 92.6% or 22.07 million mt sourced from the Middle East. Middle Eastern volumes have continued to dominate India's import slate in the year to date--of the total 4.27 million mt imported in January and February, around 3.77 million mt originated from the region.

On Tuesday, India's Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said on social media platform X that it had issued orders for refineries across the country to ramp up LPG production to meet the domestic market's needs. The ministry added that it has increased the LPG refill booking interval to 25 days from 21 days to curb hoarding and black market activities.
