BYD (HKG:1211, SHE:002594) is evaluating the possibility of building a manufacturing facility in Canada, Bloomberg News reported Friday, citing executive vice president Stella Li.
The electric carmaker is studying the Canadian market as a possible production base, though no decision has been made, Li said during a visit to Sao Paulo, according to the report.
Any facility there would likely be wholly owned and operated by BYD rather than structured as a joint venture, she added.
BYD is also open to acquiring an established overseas automaker and is assessing potential opportunities, though no deal is currently close, the report said.
