President Trump said NATO "is making a very foolish mistake" by not offering more support in the conflict with Iran, saying the U.S. helped the military alliance by taking out the Middle Eastern country's nuclear capabilities.
"I've long said that I wonder whether or not NATO would ever be there for us. So this was a great test," Trump said during an Oval Office meeting with Micheál Martin, Ireland's taoiseach, or prime minister.
Trump said of NATO during the St. Patrick's Day engagement: "We don't need them but they should have been there ... very important, We didn't have to be there for Ukraine."
