Asian Currencies Consolidate Ahead of FOMC Decision -- Market Talk

Dow Jones08:20

0020 GMT - Asian currencies consolidate against the dollar ahead of the FOMC's policy decision due today, where U.S. central bank is widely expected to leave rates unchanged. "Focus will be on shifts in the dot plot in the accompanying Summary of Economic Projections and on Chair Powell's assessment of the geopolitical situation," InTouch Capital Markets analysts team says in commentary. "Since markets are no longer certain on pricing for another rate cut this year, the question may be the extent to which the Fed validates this shift in the wake of the energy price shock," the team adds. The dollar edges 0.1% lower to 158.84 yen, but is little changed at 1.2760 Singapore dollar, FactSet data show. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
