POLITICS

Italy on Wednesday cut excise duties on fuels as part of measures to help families and businesses cope with higher energy costs triggered by the war in the Middle East.

COMPANIES

U.S. alternative investment manager Ares Management Corp ARES.N is considering increasing its 20% stake in Italian energy group's subsidiary Plenitude, Italian daily Corriere della Sera reported on Thursday, citing market rumours. Eni did not respond to the newspaper's request for comment.

Italy's biggest telecoms group and Fastweb, the Italian arm of Swisscom SCMN.S, agreed to jointly build up to 6,000 telecom towers in Italy, the two companies said on Thursday.

MEDIOBANCA MDBI.MI

S&P Global said on Wednesday it had downgraded the lender to 'BBB', citing its consolidation into Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena BMPS.MI, "a banking group with a higher risk profile and a different corporate culture and business model", adding that the move would weaken Mediobanca's creditworthiness. The outlook is positive, it said.

PRYSMIAN PRY.MI

The Italian cable maker is considering building a new mill in Texas as it pursues U.S. acquisitions, Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday. The company may pull the trigger in the next year or so on a second copper rod facility at its McKinney site near Dallas, with an investment of $100 million to $200 million, the Bloomberg report said. Reuters could not immediately verify the report.

LEONARDO LDOF.MI, IVECO IVG.MI

The Italian defence group said on Wednesday it had completed the acquisition of Iveco's defence business for 1.6 billion euros, in line with the agreed enterprise value of 1.7 billion euros minus contractual adjustments. The sale price is subject to closing adjustments to be finalised by the beginning of April, Iveco said.

J.P. Morgan raised on Thursday its rating on the Italian cement company to 'overweight' from 'neutral'.

Yannick Bollore, chairman of Vivendi's VIV.PA supervisory board, said in an interview with Il Sole 24 Ore that the French media group was satisfied with its investment in the Italian broadcaster and was not currently planning to increase its stake.

BREMBO BRBI.MI

The Italian premium brake maker on Wednesday forecast no growth in revenue and core profit margins this year, and warned they could dip if the conflict in the Middle East drags on, sending shares down. Executive Chairman Matteo Tiraboschi ‌told Reuters that, until a week ago, Brembo's forecast was for 3-5% growth in 2026.

The Italian bank's CEO Giuseppe Sica said in an interview with Italian news agency Radiocor late on Wednesday that the bank's funding is under control and is not experiencing liquidity outflows. He added that several funds were interested in investing in the company and that some had already increased their holdings.

D'Amico International, the Italian marine transport company's biggest shareholder, said on Thursday it had sold a 5% stake for 40.3 million euros through an accelerated bookbuild, at a price of 6.50 euros per share.

TECHNOPROBE TPRO.MI

The Italian semiconductor and microelectronics company reported a 57.4% jump in full-year net profit to 98.8 million euros ($113.7 million), driven by strong demand linked to artificial intelligence chips.

DOVALUE DOVA.MI

The Italian debt recovery firm said on Wednesday its board had proposed a dividend of 0.0923 euro per share. To further enhance shareholder remuneration, the board will consider launching a potential share buyback programme after the shareholders' meeting approves the annual financial results, it added in a statement.
