Equinor acquired an onshore wind farm project in Brazil from Vestas Wind Systems as it seeks to broaden its integrated power portfolio.
The Norwegian energy major said Monday that through its Rio Energy subsidiary it has acquired the 230 megawatt Esquina do Vento wind project situated in the northwest of Brazil.
"We have a solid and diversified portfolio of oil and natural gas in the country," said Helge Haugane, head of Equinor's power business.
"With this acquisition, we are expanding in renewable energy and strengthening our integrated power portfolio, where wind, solar and trading work together to deliver competitive and reliable power."
In a separate announcement, Vestas said it will supply 51 turbines to the project, with installation beginning in March 2027 and all turbines expected to be installed by the end of 2027.
In addition to supplying and installing the turbines, Vestas will also be responsible for operation and maintenance under a 30-year service agreement, it said.
Once operational, the Esquina do Vento project is expected to generate enough electricity to power around 520,000 homes in Brazil.
Financial terms weren't disclosed.
