The U.S. and Iran have sent conflicting messages Monday about whether any discussions are happening to end the conflict between the two countries. But investors generally appear to be taking an optimistic view at the moment, with stocks jumping at the start of U.S. trading.
"A little bit of light, or a little bit of good news, can go a long way," said Keith Lerner, chief investment officer at Truist Advisory Services.
Even if it's just President Trump hinting at progress, that "provides more of a two-way risk," making investors think twice about shorting the market, Lerner said.
"Before this weekend, a lot of people were thinking about worst-case scenarios," he added.
