Shopify Puts Agentic Commerce at the Center of Its Strategy -- Market Talk

Dow Jones03-26

1504 ET - Shopify continues to make progress as the leading eCommerce platform enabling agentic commerce for merchants, according to Mizuho in a note. Shopify announced that starting this week, millions of merchants can sell to ChatGPT users via Agentic Storefronts. The analysts say discovery is powered by Shopify Catalog, "with purchases completed on the merchant's storefront via in-app browser on mobile or new browser tab on desktop, at no additional transaction fees beyond standard processing rates." The system will allow merchants to retain ownership of customer relationships and data, and receive ChatGPT referral attribution in their admin. "We continue to view agentic commerce as capable of meaningfully bending the curve of eCommerce penetration, with Shopify as the key enabler and another catalyst for merchants viewing it as the platform to future-proof their business," Mizuho says.
