-- Volkswagen is negotiating a deal with Israel's Rafael Advanced Defence Systems to switch production at its Osnabruck plant in Germany from cars to components of missile defense systems, the Financial Times reports, citing unnamed sources.
-- If the plan goes ahead, Osnabruck would make various parts for the Israeli state-owned group's Iron Dome air defense system, including the heavy-duty trucks that carry the system's missiles as well as launchers and electricity generators, FT writes.
-- The German government is actively backing the proposal and production could start within 12-18 months if employees agree to switch production to defense components, FT says.
-- Volkswagen didn't immediately reply to a request for comment from FT.
