Egypt's foreign minister said Cairo is ready to host any meetings regarding Iran, "as long as they serve to de-escalate the conflict."
Speaking at a press conference, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty also suggested efforts for a cease-fire between the U.S. and Tehran must continue "because everything depends on diplomacy and negotiation." Egypt is in talks with the Islamic Republic to stop its attacks against the Persian Gulf countries, Egypt's top diplomat added.
Intermediaries from various Middle Eastern countries have been pushing for a meeting between U.S. and Iranian officials, but Tehran has expressed distrust over Washington's attempts at diplomacy and rejected a 15-point U.S. plan to end the war, setting out its own conditions for an agreement.
