Rio Tinto (RIO) said late Wednesday that it is closing its Diavik diamond mine in Canada's Northwest Territories.
The mine was in operation for 23 years and yielded 150 million carats of diamonds.
The company said closure activities are expected to extend through 2029.
Rio Tinto shares were down 2.2% in premarket activity Thursday.
