Galapagos nominated Gino Santini to its board of directors with the intention of appointing him chair.

If elected to the board, Santini would succeed current chair Jérôme Contamine, whose term on the board will end following the biotechnology company's annual shareholders meeting on April 28.

Santini worked for 27 years at Eli Lilly, serving as president of U.S. operations and senior vice president of corporate strategy and business development. He led major acquisitions at Lilly, Galapagos said.

Since leaving Lilly, Santini has served as an adviser or board member to several pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, Galapagos said.
