UnitedHealth Group (UNH) said Thursday that it has introduced Avery, a generative AI tool designed to help members manage health benefits and streamline customer support.
The company said Avery is available through its app and website and is currently offered to about 6.5 million employer-sponsored plan members and 160,000 Medicare Advantage members.
It added that it plans to expand access to more than 20 million commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid members by year-end.
The tool allows users to check coverage, estimate costs, track claims, find providers, and schedule appointments, the company said, adding that it can also transfer users to human representatives when needed, providing them with a summary of prior interactions.
UnitedHealthcare said Avery is part of a broader rollout of AI tools across its parent company, UnitedHealth Group, which plans to invest about $1.6 billion in AI this year.
