U.S. Stocks Extend Slide in Caution Ahead of Weekend -- Market Talk

1607 ET - U.S. stocks fall sharply and oil gains again despite President Trump's move to pause strikes on Iran's energy sector for another 10 days to allow time for negotiations. The Dow Industrials join the Nasdaq in correction territory, trading 10% below its recent high, as the Pentagon looks at sending up to 10,000 additional ground troops to the Middle East to give Trump more military options. DJIA drops 793 points, or 1.7%, to 45166, the S&P 500 loses 1.7% to 6368 and the Nasdaq slides 2.2% to 20948. Major averages extend their losing streak to five weeks. (patrick.sullivan@wsj.com)
