Exchange-Traded Funds, Equity Futures Higher Pre-Bell Monday Ahead of Fresh Economic Data

The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) was up 0.6% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.7% higher in Monday's premarket activity ahead of fresh economic data releases this week.

US stock futures were also higher, with S&P 500 Index futures up 0.7%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures advancing 0.7%, and Nasdaq futures gaining 0.7% before the start of regular trading.

The Dallas Federal Reserve's manufacturing reading will be released at 10:30 am ET.

New York Fed President John Williams is slated to speak on Monday.

In premarket activity, bitcoin was up by 1.9%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 2.4% higher, Ether ETF (EETH) advanced 4.1%, and Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF (BETH) was flat.

Consumer

The State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) was up 0.1%. The Vanguard Consumer Staples Index Fund ETF Shares (VDC) was down 0.1%, and the iShares US Consumer Staples ETF (IYK) retreated by 0.3%. The State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) advanced by 0.6%. The VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) was inactive, while the State Street SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) gained 0.6%.

Sysco (SYY) shares were down more than 8% pre-bell after the company agreed to acquire Jetro Restaurant Depot in a cash and stock deal valued at $29.10 billion.

Winners and Losers:

Energy

The iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) was up 1.4%, while the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) was 1.4% higher.

Sable Offshore (SOC) stock was up more than 3% before Monday's opening bell after the company said it began oil sales on March 29 through the Santa Ynez Pipeline System, which was filled from Las Flores Canyon to Pentland Station at rates exceeding 50,000 barrels per day.

Technology

The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) gained 0.8%, and the iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was 0.7% higher, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was up 1.4%. Among semiconductor ETFs, the State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) rose 1.8%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) advanced 0.8%.

Bitdeer (BTDR) shares were up more than 2% in premarket activity after the company said its Tydal Data Center unit hired Data Center Installations to convert a Norwegian facility into an artificial intelligence co-location site.

Health Care

The State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) advanced 0.4%, the Vanguard Health Care Index Fund (VHT) was up 0.6%, while the iShares US Healthcare ETF (IYH) was inactive. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) gained 0.6%.

Novartis AG (NVS) stock was up more than 1% premarket after the company said Sunday that its drug Fabhalta showed "statistically significant, clinically meaningful improvement" in kidney function among patients with IgA nephropathy, or Berger's disease, in a phase three study.

Financial

The State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) advanced 0.7%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 1.8%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was 1.8% lower.

Burford Capital (BUR) shares were up more than 1% pre-bell after closing Friday with a 47% fall. The company said Monday it expects a "substantial" write-down of the value of its YPF asset after a US appeals court reversed a $16 billion judgment against Argentina for nationalizing the oil company YPF in 2012.

Industrial

The State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLI) advanced 0.9%, while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) was up 1% and the iShares US Industrials ETF (IYJ) was 0.2% higher.

Commodities

Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil gained by 1.2% to reach $100.88 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas declined by 3.5% to $2.92 per 1 million British Thermal Units. The United States Oil Fund (USO) was up by 1.4%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 3.5% lower.

Gold futures for March were up by 1.8% at $4,603.60 an ounce on the Comex. Silver futures rose 2.5% to $71.54 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) advanced by 1%, and the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 1.6% higher.
