Sony (TYO:6758) has increased the prices of its PlayStation 5 consoles due to rising costs for essential components such as memory chips, Nikkei Asia reported Saturday, citing the company.
This marks the second price hike within a span of less than 12 months, the publication noted.
Effective April 2, U.S. prices for Sony's PlayStation 5 consoles will rise, with the standard model increasing to $649.99, the Digital Edition to $599.99, the high-end PS5 Pro to $899.99, and the PlayStation Portal remote player to $249.99, the report added.
The growing demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure has prompted memory chip suppliers to focus production on higher-margin data center components, thereby constraining supply and driving up costs for consumer electronics, the news daily said.
