Alaska Airlines unveiled its new international business class, a premium offering for long-haul flights, a move that comes as airlines increasingly rely on premium seats to drive revenue.
The offering, available on new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, includes suites with privacy doors and seats that convert into a flat bed, elevated dining options and premium bedding and amenity kits.
The new class will debut this spring, coinciding with the expansion of Alaska's international network to Europe.
Airlines are significantly expanding their premium offerings in order to generate more revenue out of each seat flown. Premium economy seats can be priced at least twice as high as regular economy seats and only take up slightly more room.
Last week, United said it would add more than 250 planes over the next two years with a particular focus on boosting premium capacity.
