Sea's Shopee E-Commerce Platform Likely in Reinvestment Phase -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-03 09:59

0159 GMT - Sea Ltd.'s Shopee e-commerce platform seems to be in a reinvestment phase, Daiwa Capital Markets analysts say in a research report. The platform is prioritizing infrastructure build-out, logistics capability, and targeted user programs over short-term profitability, the analysts note. Although the platform's gross merchandise value continues to be underpinned by a healthy mix of buyer expansion and higher order frequency, Daiwa doesn't expect a marked positive earnings surprise in the near term. The brokerage cuts its 2026 adjusted EPS estimate for Sea by around 4% and lowers the American depositary receipt's target price to US$157.00 from US$165.00. However, it reaffirms the buy rating as the risk-reward profile remains attractive. The ADRs last closed at US$82.28.(ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
