China's Robotaxi Fleet Size May Expand to 500,000 in 2030 -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-01

0215 GMT - China's robotaxi fleet size is likely to expand to 500,000 in 2030 from 4,500 in 2025, HSBC Global Research analysts write in a note. Regulators in Beijing and local governments continue to offer policy support, costs are failing and the unit economics of market leaders are starting to break even, they say. The robotaxi model is a network-effect business, meaning that larger fleets will improve service coverage, reduce waiting times and increase vehicle utilization, which in turn attracts more users and further improves unit economics, they add. Pony AI targets more than 3,000 robotaxis by the end of this year, while WeRide aims to have 2,600 robotaxis by the end of this year, they say.
