Golf Spending is Picking Up in Western U.S. -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-03 02:38

1438 ET - Americans out west are spending more on golf, while other regions are attracting new players to the sport but typically through lower-cost options, a Bank of America Institute analysis says. In 2025, spending increased about 7% and 9% per customer in the Mountain and Pacific regions, respectively, the analysis says. That growth may reflect increased migration to the western portion of the Sunbelt region, as well as the rise of "stay-to-play" resorts where golfers stay at the course and pay course fees. Some golf resorts in the region have also added new courses that may incentivize people to extend their stays and spend more money, the analysis says. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
