1302 ET - Old Dominion Freight Line's volumes this quarter appear to remain behind peers but are still tracking ahead of Benchmark's expectations, says analyst Christopher Kuhn. Management made positive commentary about the domestic economy earlier this month, "representing a shift from several quarters of emphasizing persistent macro softness, though geopolitical risks remain a consideration," Kuhn says. The company also continues to see gains in weight per shipment, which is "often an early indicator of improving underlying demand, particularly from industrial customers," he says. Due to recent trends in volume, yield and seasonal improvement, 1Q revenue could finish above the high end of management's guidance, Kuhn adds.(nicholas.miller@wsj.com)
