Singapore Banks May Benefit From Mideast Conflict -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-02

0741 GMT - Singapore banks will benefit indirectly from the Middle East conflict as investors look for stability, UOB Kay Hian analyst Jonathan Koh says in a note. High net worth individuals seek asset protection in politically neutral, well-regulated financial hubs, as increasing geopolitical uncertainties drive deposit growth and wealth management inflows into local banks, particularly from the Middle East. "These inflows support balance sheet liquidity and fee-based income, especially in private banking and trading activities amid increased market volatility," Koh says. UOB KH maintains an overweight rating on the Singapore banking sector, pegging DBS as its top pick. (amanda.lee@wsj.com)
