In plain english, this ratio subtracts FCF from net profit, and divides that number by the company's average operating assets over that period.  You could think of the accrual ratio from cashflow as the 'non-FCF profit ratio'.  Therefore, it's actually considered a good thing when a company has a negative accrual ratio, but a bad thing if its accrual ratio is positive.  While it's not a problem to have a positive accrual ratio, indicating a certain level of non-cash profits, a high accrual ratio is arguably a bad thing, because it indicates paper profits are not matched by cash flow.  To quote a 2014 paper by Lewellen and Resutek, \"firms with higher accruals tend to be less profitable in the future\".  For the year to December 2025, XtalPi Holdings had an accrual ratio of 0.20.   We can therefore deduce that its free cash flow fell well short of covering its statutory profit.    In the last twelve months it actually had negative free cash flow, with an outflow of CN¥247m despite its profit of CN¥123.7m, mentioned above.    Coming off the back of negative free cash flow last year, we imagine some shareholders might wonder if its cash burn of CN¥247m, this year, indicates high risk.     Having said that, there is more to consider.  We must also consider the impact of unusual items on statutory profit (and thus the accrual ratio), as well as note the ramifications of the company issuing new shares.     One positive for XtalPi Holdings shareholders is that it's accrual ratio was significantly better last year, providing reason to believe that it may return to stronger cash conversion in the future. Given the accrual ratio, it's not overly surprising that XtalPi Holdings' profit was boosted by unusual items worth CN¥507m in the last twelve months.   While it's always nice to have higher profit, a large contribution from unusual items sometimes dampens our enthusiasm.  When we analysed the vast majority of listed companies worldwide, we found that significant unusual items are often not repeated.  And, after all, that's exactly what the accounting terminology implies.   We can see that XtalPi Holdings' positive unusual items were quite significant relative to its profit in the year to December 2025.  As a result, we can surmise that the unusual items are making its statutory profit significantly stronger than it would otherwise be.    Our Take On XtalPi Holdings' Profit Performance XtalPi Holdings didn't back up its earnings with free cashflow, but this isn't too surprising given profits were inflated by unusual items.  The dilution means the results are weaker when viewed from a per-share perspective.
