Gamuda, MMC Engineering Likely to Lead Penang LRT Cross-Sea Link Bid -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-03

0115 GMT - Gamuda and MMC Engineering could be the lead contractors of the Penang light rail transit Mutiara Line project, particularly its 6km cross-sea link, Maybank IB analyst Yin Shao Yang says in a note. The project, linking Malaysia's Penang Island to Seberang Perai, is expected to be awarded by July, with construction starting in 2027 and completion by 2031, he notes. Due to its complexity, the job value is estimated between 5 billion ringgit and 8 billion ringgit, he says. The project appears complex as it requires high structural rigidity and a 62-meters vertical clearance, he reckons. Subcontracting opportunities may go to YTL, Malaysian Resources and Dhaya Maju Infrastructure, he adds. Maybank maintains a positive rating on Malaysia's construction sector.
