Rising Oil Prices Hint at Increase in 1Q Earnings for Energy Sector -- Market Talk

1523 ET - The energy sector has recorded the largest percentage increase in estimated earnings of the 11 S&P 500 sectors tracked by FactSet. The estimated year-over-year earnings growth rate rose to 8.9% on April 2 from 0.3% on Dec. 31, according to FactSet. This anticipated increase was driven by rising oil prices tied to the conflict with Iran, as the price of oil soared 77% during the quarter. Exxon Mobil is the largest contributor to the increase in expected earnings for the sector since Dec. 31, according to FactSet. (chris.kuo@wsj.com)
