Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday visited Astroscale Holdings Inc., a Tokyo-based startup that is working with a French company on measures to deal with space debris.

After receiving a briefing on Astroscale's efforts toward space debris removal and reduction, Macron stated that the company's activities are a model of cooperation between France and Japan. The French president also said he wants to raise the issue of space debris when his country hosts the Group of Seven summit meeting in June.

Takaichi praised Astroscale, too, saying, "Its superb efforts enhance the sustainability of space."

The visit to Astroscale was part of Macron's three-day official trip to Japan.
