Electrovaya (ELVA) said Thursday that it has joined a Binghamton University-led project funded by the US Department of Energy to develop advanced energy storage systems for critical infrastructure.
The manufacturing company said the project, supported by a $5 million federal grant, will focus on designing and deploying a 1.2-megawatt-hour battery unit at a data center testing facility at the university.
Electrovaya said it will supply its proprietary battery technology to evaluate backup power capabilities and peak demand management within the computing environment.
The project brings a consortium that includes LiiON, Eaton, and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, the company said.
