South Korean Equities Surge on Trump-Iran Cease-Fire -- Market Talk
Dow Jones04-08
0515 GMT - South Korean equities are broadly higher after President Trump backed down from his threat to wipe out Iran's civilization, agreeing to a two-week cease-fire deal with Tehran. Index heavyweight Samsung Electronics climbs more than 8% and SK Hynix advances 14%. Hyundai Motor gains about 7%. Korea's Kospi had been hit hard by the Middle East conflict, shedding nearly 20% in March as investors sold off already expensive chip stocks. The benchmark index rises 7.2% to 5888.21.
