Casey's General Stores, the Iowa-based convenience store chain, will replace medical technology company Hologic Inc. in the S&P 500 before trading opens on Thursday, S&P Dow Jones Indices said late Monday.

Hologic is being acquired by affiliates of Blackstone Inc. and TPG Global in a deal expected to be completed on or about Tuesday. Barron's reported in October that Blackstone and TPG were in advanced talks to acquire the medical device maker, although the companies declined to confirm the talks.

Shares of Casey's rose 1.1% in after-hours trading. Hologic shares were flat. Both stocks hit 52-week highs on Monday.

Hologic, which focuses on improving women's health and well-being through early detection and treatment, said Monday that all the required regulatory approvals have been received for the transaction, which is expected to close on or about Tuesday. Chairman, President, and CEO Steve MacMillan will retire when Hologic's go-private transaction with Blackstone and TPG closes, and the next CEO is expected to be announced when that happens.

DigitalOcean Holdings, an enterprise cloud computing platform, will take Casey's General Stores' place in the S&P MidCap 400. DigitalOcean shares slipped 0.1% in after-hours trading.

And Broadstone Net Lease Inc., a real estate investment trust that invests in primarily single-tenant commercial real estate properties, will replace DigitalOcean Holdings in the S&P SmallCap 600, S&P Dow Jones Indices said. Broadstone's stock rose 5.1% in after-hours trading.

The moves are part of the index's quarterly rebalance, and can often trigger buying and selling of the affected stocks by funds that track the benchmarks.
