Japan reported a current account surplus of 3.933 trillion yen in February, slightly down from 3.938 trillion yen a year earlier, preliminary data released by the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday showed.

That figure was higher than the consensus estimate for a surplus of 3.549 trillion yen and the 931 billion yen surplus in January.

Exports grew year over year to 9.372 trillion yen from 9.045 trillion yen, and imports climbed to 9.105 trillion yen from 8.303 trillion yen a year before, the report said.

The goods surplus declined to 267.6 billion yen from 809.9 billion yen in the prior year but reversed the 600.4 billion yen deficit in the prior month. The primary income surplus ballooned year-over-year to 4.24 trillion yen from 3.799 trillion yen, the data showed.
