1308 ET - Latin American countries are relatively shielded from energy supply disruptions caused by the war in Iran, Oxford Economics' Mauricio Monge writes. The region is less dependent on hydrocarbon imports from the Middle East and "uninterrupted fuel imports from the US shielded Latin America from the major physical supply shocks seen in Asia," Monge says. He adds that Argentina, Brazil and Guyana are expanding oil and gas production, while U.S. intervention "will likely push Venezuela's oil production close to its pre-crisis peak levels." Monge notes that Mexico "is the only oil-producing country in the region with an energy trade deficit, joining non-oil producers like Chile and Peru." (paulo.trevisani@wsj.com; @ptrevisani)
