BEIJING, April 9 (Reuters) - China's Chery Automobile 9973.HK launched its European operations centre in Barcelona on Wednesday, marking the automaker's first overseas regional operations hub as it expands its presence in the competitive European market.
Chery hailed the move as a "key milestone" in its global strategy, according to a statement on its WeChat on Thursday
"We established the European Operations Centre in Barcelona as Chery's key operational hub in Europe, hoping to build a system that better understands and serves the European market," Chery's chairman Yin Tongyue said during the launch ceremony
Chery has entered 18 European countries with over 100,000 customers in the region, the company said
January-February sales in the United Kingdom and the European Union reached 39,000 vehicles, up 200% year-on-year
The automaker also inaugurated a Spanish research and development institute focusing on electrification and intelligent mobility technologies
