Japan Railways Group companies will raise prices for the Japan Rail Pass from Oct. 1, marking the first revision in three years, Nikkei Asia reported Friday.
Adult fares will increase by roughly 5% to 6%. A seven-day ordinary pass will cost 53,000 yen, up from 50,000 yen, while the Green Class option will rise to 74,000 yen from 70,000 yen, according to the report.
The pass, sold exclusively to foreign visitors via overseas agents and an official website, allows travel on most rail services including many shinkansen routes, the report said.
Prices on the official website will remain unchanged for a limited period, with timing for adjustments to be set later, according to the report.
The revision follows fare increases by several group operators, including East Japan Railway (TYO:9020), West Japan Railway (TYO:9021) and Kyushu Railway (TYO:9142), the report said.
