Samsung SDI Could Return to Profit in 2H, Driven by ESS Business -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-09

0250 GMT - Samsung SDI could return to profit in 2H, largely driven by its energy storage system business, Daiwa Capital's S.K. Kim says. The South Korean battery maker's ESS business likely exited losses in 1Q, helping narrow overall quarterly losses amid weak demand for electric-vehicle batteries, the analyst writes in a note. Revenue from its ESS business is projected to jump 60% in 2026, he estimates, citing robust demand for battery backup units designed to supply uninterrupted power to artificial-intelligence servers. Earnings could also be supported also by its planned supply of all solid-state batteries for humanoid robots, he adds. (kwanwoo.jun@wsj.com)
