President Trump took a jab at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on Wednesday, saying on Truth Social that "NATO wasn't there when we needed them, and they won't be there if we need them again." The president met with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte in Washington on Wednesday and has threatened to withdraw the U.S. from the alliance.

"Remember Greenland, that big, poorly run, piece of ice!!!" he added in his social-media post. Trump has insisted the U.S. take over Greenland for national-security reasons, alarming NATO allies.

Trump and Rutte met privately, a departure from past visits when both men praised each other in front of reporters. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt had earlier said Trump expected to raise his complaints with NATO. Rutte told CNN that Trump was "clearly disappointed" with NATO allies.
